Aftercare Guide
Microneedling Aftercare
Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the skin to trigger collagen production. How you care for your skin immediately after treatment is crucial — the skin is temporarily more vulnerable and more receptive to the right actives.
Before your treatment
Stop using retinoids (vitamin A, retinol, tretinoin) 5 days before treatment — retinoids sensitise skin and increase the risk of irritation.
Stop using exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs — glycolic, salicylic, lactic) and physical exfoliants 5 days before treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before treatment. Sunburned or recently tanned skin cannot be treated.
Do not wax, thread, or use depilatory creams on the treatment area for 5 days before.
Stay hydrated and maintain healthy skin barrier function with a simple, gentle moisturiser in the week before.
Let us know about any active cold sores, eczema flares, or recent skin infections.
After your treatment
The skin is temporarily more permeable after microneedling — be very selective about what you apply.
Use only the products we recommend: For the first 24–48 hours, use only the gentle hydrating products advised by your physician. A hyaluronic acid serum and fragrance-free moisturiser are ideal.
SPF is essential: Apply SPF 50+ every single morning from the day after treatment. The skin is more vulnerable to UV damage after microneedling and UV exposure will work against your results.
No active ingredients for 5 days: Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C serums, and niacinamide for 5 days after treatment. Reintroduce gradually when skin has healed.
No makeup for 24 hours: The micro-channels are still closing in the first 24 hours — cosmetics can introduce bacteria through them.
No exercise for 24–48 hours: Sweating increases infection risk and can cause stinging on sensitised skin.
No sun, sauna, or steam for 48 hours: Heat and UV are the enemies of healing skin.
No waxing or threading for 2 weeks: The skin is too sensitised for hair removal in the treatment area for at least 2 weeks.
Your results timeline
Redness similar to mild sunburn — this is completely normal and expected. Some people experience a sensation of tightness.
Redness fades. Minor flaking or peeling as the skin surface renews — this is the old skin shedding, which is a positive sign.
Full results of each session become visible as new collagen forms and matures. Skin will feel smoother and appear more radiant.
A course of 3–6 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, is recommended for menopausal skin. The cumulative results are significantly greater than a single session.
